I am a current faculty heads of the Mathematics in upper school of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia. I began my teaching career as a faculty member of the University of Colombo and has over 28 years of experience in teaching and 12 years of experience marking O/Level examination papers. I’m also a consultant for the “Ray” Educational Magazine and oversees the mathematics section of the publication and has obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. Often times, people are nervous about getting help in math: don’t be! I tell my students all the time that math is challenging for all of us at one point or another. My intent is to provide clear and thorough explanations, and to present them in an environment in which the student is comfortable. Although I do not promise to make someone into an A+ student overnight, with regular help just about every student I have encountered makes significant improvements over time. Think about learning math in the same way you would learn to play piano or learn another language: it takes time, patience, and LOTS of practice.

www.mathssir.lk, a mathematics website which supports the education of students across the country. This website is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and provides free online videos in English, Sinhala and Tamil to help students who have missed lessons and are struggling to complete their syllabi. The website is designed to assist students from grade 9 to 11, especially those who are preparing for their GCE Ordinary Level examinations. All lessons are completely free, making the website accessible to all students from both rural and urban Sri Lanka.
